So I was at a local drugstore recently and I noticed lines like Almay and Mabelline have come out with eyeshadow colors to complement specific eye color, which have me the idea to do a segment on it, explaining why they have made their selections, and to give you some options for quality far superior to drugstore brands.

BLUE EYES: Classic colors are taupe, grey, navy, and black. Blue eyes often have silver/grey undertones, so feel free to experiment with metallic silver pigments or shadows with a silver shimmer. For a more avant-garde look, try teal or fuschia for a real pop, and whatever you do, avoid bright blues!


GREEN EYES: Tried and true favorites include brown, peach, purple, and dark green. If green is used, it should always be darker than your actual eye color. As many green eyes have colored flecks in them, its always great to experiment with pulling these colors out and using them as a shadow. Chartreuse and gold are great to use for highlighting with green eyes.


BROWN EYES: Brown eyes have always had the tendency to go with almost any shadow color, but copper, bronze, pink, brown, and beige are a never fail! Pump it up a notch with a hint of orange, blue, hot pink, and lime to really add interest.


NOW, let's get down to the good stuff: PRODUCTS!!! There are 4 types of eyeshadow that most people are going to encounter: Cream, Pencil, Loose Powder, and Pressed Powder. As an artist, I prefer loose powder, but you should decide what works for you. Remember to always start with an eyeshadow primer to ensure that your lids do not crease! (Urban Decay makes a good one)

PRESSED POWDER
Every cosmetics line from Covergirl to Chanel has pressed powders, and it is nearly impossible to recommend just one. Look for a silky texture and finely milled powders. Again, Nars has some of the best color and texture out there, and is a great one-stop for all your eye makeup needs.

LOOSE POWDER
MAC PIGMENTS is pretty much the best loose powder out there, coming in many colors, which can be mixed resulting in infinite possibilities! Use with a good quality brush, and tap off excess for smooth application.
