Rosacea ia a major dermatological condition affecting over 25% of Americans. This serious skin condition has no cure and can affect more than just self-esteem. If left untreated, Rosacea, can result in permanent discoloration of the skin, and in severe cases, a thickening of the skin which can cause permanent disfigurement. While I am going to reference ways to treat SYMPTOMS of rosacea, and some beauty tricks to minimize its appearance, this segment is IN NO WAY offering a treatment or cure to this skin disease.

There are four subtypes of rosacea: 1- Facial Redness (veins, flushing, etc). 2- Bumps and Pimples. 3- Skin Thickening. 4- Eye Irritation. Many people confuse redness associated with acne with rosacea, so check with a doctor to refer to proper treatment. Treatment includes topical and oral antibiotics as well as laser treatments. As with acne treatments, rosacea treatments offer EXTREME side effects and should not be taken lightly.

FIRST, Eliminate triggers of your rosacea. Posible triggers include alcohol, hot beverages, spicey food, hot baths, humid weather, stress, and allergies. The number one trigger is the SUN, so make sure to wear suncreen at all times when outside.

NEXT, Use a non-irritating face wash. Washes that contain soap are often drying and can leave skin with rosacea very irritated, so choose one that is soap free. I really like the CLINIQUE Redness Solutions Soothing Cleanser. It contains, cucumber, oat, barley, and chamomile extracts to cool and calm the skin.

THEN, Moisturize! Keeping your skin moist will help clear up mild rosacea, as redness if very often caused by dryness in the skin. CLINIQUE's Redness Solutions Daily Relief Cream contains tea, wheat, barley, and algae to sooth the skin. The only downside is this cream does not contain SPF, so make sure to use a sunscreen as well.

REMEMBER, when searching for skincare that works for you, avoid potential skin irritants such as ALCOHOL, WITCH HAZEL, PEPPERMINT, EUCALYPTUS, MENTHOL, CLOVE, and SALICYLIC ACID!

1. CONCEALER: BENEFIT "You're Bluffing" concealer is tinted yellow and minimizes appearance of redness. Use for spot treatment or blotchy areas.

2. CORRECTIVE PRIMER: L'OREAL Studio Secrets Anti-Redness Primer is tinted green to counteract all-over red tone in the skin. Use only if you have significant redness.

3. FOUNDATION: Use a good quality liquid makeup foundation.

4. POWDER: If you have very stubborn, persistant redness, even with the previous steps, set your foundation with MAKE UP FOR EVER's corrective loose powder in #4 (Green).

TIP: You may want to try various combinations of corrective makeup techniques to find out what combination works for you. For example, I like to use the Benefit corrector for my "blush areas" (nose and cheekbones), and proceed with normal makeup and set with Make Up For Ever's green loose powder.
