It's NEW YORK FASHION WEEK! Fall Trends, Here We Come!!!!

Posted by STETSON CREATIVE Tuesday, September 7, 2010

This is it! All of the September Issues are out, and with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Starting this Thursday, and Fashion's Night Out Friday, there is only one thing on everyone's mind: STYLE!

All week I will be discussing my favorite fall beauty trends, new products, classic favorites, and my Fall essentials. Designers this year are reinventing some classic looks and debuting some all new styles, and you can enhance these looks with the right makeup!

PLUM is the new PINK!
Designers Peter Som, Dolce & Gabbana, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Oscar de la Renta all traded in the pink for the color of luxury and royalty: purple. Along with royal fashion, PLUM is the hottest new lip shade of the season, and paired with a shimmery gold smoky eye, is the decadent combination you need for a night downtown, or for FASHION'S NIGHT OUT for that matter! WEAR THIS LOOK WITH: gold, purple, camel, or any of the seasons hottest animal prints, and it works better for an evening look than a daytime look! DO NOT WEAR THIS LOOK: to the office, to an interview, shopping, or lunching...you will look like a walking punch line!

You can recreate this look from the D&G Beauty Fall Campaign with relative ease, and you don't need the hard-to-find D&G Makeup to do it!

FACE:
Start with a Silicone-Based Primer.  Many women think that using a primer is an unnecessary step that they don't have time for, but as I always say, better to leave the house flawless and late than on time looking like a hot mess.  Primer does three things: 1) It seals in moisture so that your makeup doesn't dry out your skin, 2) It creates a silk smooth base for your foundation, keeping it from settling into lines or looking too heavy, and 3) It keeps your makeup put ALL DAY to ensure that you are still looking as flawless at happy hour as you do for breakfast hour! My latest primer obsession is the MEHRON Velvet Finish Primer Serum.  Apply to a clean, moisturized face with a cosmetic sponge (it goes on clear) before foundation and allow to set for 30 seconds.  Next, apply liquid foundation using a clean cosmetic sponge (I like to pump it onto the back of my hand first!). The silicone coating allows you to achieve the thinnest, most invisible coating of foundation, especially if you use a good quality one such as the brand new YSL Teint Radiance Foundation.  For the flawless contour as you see on Scarlett here, use two shades of foundation (highlight with one shade lighter than your skin, contour with one shade darker, and use the two mixed to achieve your natural tone).  Finish with a lightweight, translucent powder, such as the TARTE Smooth Operator Finishing Powder (It is IMPORTANT to tap off excess powder from your brush before approaching your face, and apply in a circular motion...the less powder on your face, the better!).

EYES:
It is VERY important to start the eyelids with a primer.  This prevents creasing and fading of color, so your eyes look great all day or all night long.  If you go with a smoky eyeshadow palette, like the Private Affairs Palette from LORAC, it comes with the primer, so its less product to buy.  When working with a palette, I like to stick to 3 colors at a time, starting with the lighter gold colors in the center, right below the brow, and directly under the lower lash.  Continue with a darker color towards the outside of the eye and use your darkest color for the crease.  Make sure to wash or change brushes in between colors to avoid having a "dirty" look.  Use a good quality waterproof eyeliner of your choice in black, and your favorite black mascara.  Achieve maximum lashes with falsies...like the Genevieve Lash from MAKE UP FOR EVER, which come complete with glue and all.  Clamp false lashes with your natural lashes in a lash curler for a truly natural look.

LIPS:
The most important part of this look is the lip, so make sure you do it right! Start with a lip liner such as NARS Marnie, and fill in THE ENTIRE LIP! This will ensure that your lipstick will stay put no matter what! Next, use a good quality CREAMY lipstick with a smooth finish that has staying powder.  The ultimate in comfort, pigment quality, and longevity are the BRAND NEW Rouge Artist Intense Lip Colors from MAKE UP FOR EVER, which come in the perfect shade of violet (#49) for your fall look.  I like to use a lip brush for maximum precision! Finish off your lip with the perfect gold shimmer gloss from GIVENCHY (Pop Gloss Crystal in #402-Light Up).  Toss the gloss in your clutch, and you are perfect for touch ups all night long.  REMEMBER to drink from a straw only!

You can EVEN take this look from the office to the bars with a few tricks.  Start with the lighter color shadows and a nude lip for daytime, and add the smoky eye and plum lip as you transition into your evening!
