What About a Look I Can Wear to the Office?

Posted by STETSON CREATIVE Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Among the latest fall trends is the reintroduction of military chic....along with this comes the camel trench, mixed olives, and a few modern metallics.  As long as you steer clear of the camo prints, you can feel safe that you are rockin' this style well...but we aren't here to talk fashion are we?

Military Chic
A perfect compliment to the military look is that FLAWLESS beauty look shown by Burberry, Rag and Bone, and Chloe.  WHEN TO USE THIS LOOK: At the office, around town, shopping, happy hour, dinner, shows at Lincoln Center.  WHEN TO NOT USE THIS LOOK: Any Fashion Week after party, at the club, after 10PM, if you are wearing anything made by Roberto Cavalli.

FACE:
As previously stated, ALWAYS start with a silicone primer.  For a truly flawless face, ensure that you are covering up any blemishes with a VERY good quality concealer like KEVYN AUCOIN Sensual Skin Enhancer under the eyes and to cover blemishes.  Go with one shade lighter than your natural skin tone to brighten the face and apply with a concealer brush.  Next, since you want to avoid too many layers of makeup for a daytime look, I like to use a cream to powder foundation like Some Kind-A Gorgeous from BENEFIT.  It goes on creamy smooth over your primer and concealer, but dries to a soft, powder-like finish, eliminating a step and ensuring that your makeup doesn't look too heavy!  As you can see in this Burberry advertisement, the girls posses larger-than-life cheekbones, which can easily be accomplished with MAKE UP FOR EVER's Sculpting Kit, which contains a lighter and darker pressed powder to highlight and accentuate the cheeks.  Use the light color lightly on the apples of cheek, bridge of nose and forehead just above the brow, and use the darker one just below cheekbones, sides of nose, and close to the hairline, and neck to accentuate jaw line.  Getting the hang of this takes some time, so make sure you give yourself enough time to correct any mistakes! You can finish the look off with a lightweight powder blush like CARGO's Topeka Blush.

EYES:
Remember for this type of look, LESS is MORE, so keep it simple. For this eye look you need very little to get a lot of look.  First, prime your eye lids just as you would your face and, working quickly, use MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Cream in #12 - Golden Copper all around the eyes and lid, then switch to #15 Taupe for the outer area of the eye and the crease.  Also use this as your eyeliner.  Aqua Cream dries very quickly, so having a good primer as a base will help you get that silky-smooth finish you desire.  Finish off the eye with a good quality mascara like SHISEIDO Perfect Mascara in Brown.

LIPS:
Again, keep it simple.  Use a sheer, matte lip color like NARS Lip Treatment in Lara and call it a day.   No heavy colors or glosses for this look...keep it light and pretty!

This look can EASILY translate into evening with a bold lip color (like a deep red-brown) and some eyeliner!
