Fashion Week Continues...

Another great look for the fall is pumping the dark features with the red lip.  This is a great look if you are rocking the downtown cool.  WEAR THIS LOOK WITH: Red, Black, White, and Vintage Clothing, or if you are very daring, wear with color...moss green and yellow could work well if you have the right attitude!  DO NOT WEAR THIS LOOK WITH: Pastels, or anything conservative...or DO wear with conservative for a twist...but again, having the right attitude is key!

This look from the FALL '10 GIVENCHY campaign is a great place to start.

FACE: For this look, we are keeping it very simple.  As always, start with a silicone primer.  After the primer has set for a minute or so, apply  medium coverage foundation with a cosmetic sponge.  For this look, I like to go 1-2 shades lighter than your natural skin tone such as STILA's Illuminating Liquid Foundation, which leaves for skin with a semi-matte, airbrushed looking finish.  Since we are going lighter than your natural tone, make sure to get your ears, neck, and shoulders if they are exposed. Finish with a light dusting of a good quality translucent powder.  Remember that using too much powder will make your face look overly made-up, which is not a great look for parties, so keep it light and natural!

EYES: As you can see in the image above, there is not heavy shadow coverage on the eyes so we are keeping it very very simple with this.  As always, use a shadow primer (or if you don't have any, your foundation primer will do the trick).  I like to give the lid an allover dusting with a natural looking shadow (with matte texture) such as MAC Naked Lunch.  Then, with a very good black eyeliner (I like cream eyeliner the best such as MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Black shadow.  Apply very close to the lash line on the lid with an angled brush (often called an eyebrow brush) and pull out the line past the edge of the eye slightly.  You can either leave the liner in a crisp line or smoke it out slightly with an smudge brush.  Finish with a good coat of black mascara on the upper and lower lashes.

LIPS: For a really red lip, you want to make sure the lip is smooth and supple, so I like to start with a lip plumper such as DUWOP Prime Venom, which leave lips plump and ready to accept color.  Next, fill in the entire lip with a soft, matte lip pencil such as NARS Matte Velvet Pencil in Cruella.  This will keep your lipstick firmly in place.  For lipstick, try MAKE UP FOR EVER limited edition Moulin Rouge (#43).  It is the most vibrant, over-the-top red for when average just isn't enough (and it supports KISS FOR A CAUSE).  As always, use a lip brush for precise application. With red, I like to keep lips matte, so omit the gloss this time! Remember to drink with a straw to keep you lips looking great all night long!
